Our mission is “To raise the profile of non-contact Walking Football in Cyprus as a unique amateur sport. To promote participation in the sport, in doing so, inspiring activity, seeking to have an impact on physical and mental wellbeing and maintaining a high standard of competitive play. Ultimately leading to success on the national and international stage.”
Inspiring safe & social activity.
Key priorities include the eradication of running and the reduction of the over physicality currently in the sport.
The establishment of specialist WFA referees.
Playing Walking Football?
In fact many different age groups are playing Walking Football, due to the non-contact nature of the game and because no running is allowed. We have seen games where three generations of one family are all playing together.
Everyone can feel the health benefits of Walking Football
Walking football offers a multitude of health benefits to older people such as reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke while improving blood pressure.
Positive changes in postural balance, blood pressure and resting heart rate, lowered cholesterol, improved blood sugar levels, bone density, and improving reactions, whilst slashing the odds of suffering from type 2 diabetes – all indicators of general good health.
The women's game
Women have been playing Walking Football nearly as long as men have, but the growth in the last few years has been tremendous and this is only set to continue.
This growth has seen the introduction of Women’s teams in several age groups and many more women only clubs. The women’s game is exactly the same as the men’s, except women start to play Walking Football competitively at over 40’s.
The CWFC is committed to supporting the women’s game at all levels and, in particular, the grassroots level.
UEFA LAUNCH
New walking football toolkit available
We're proud to empower football organisations to engage older people in football and encourage an active lifestyle at all ages with the launch of new walking football resources.
UEFA announces the launch of the Walking Football Toolkit – a comprehensive resource designed to help national associations, leagues, clubs and local organisations enhance the health of older people and support the growth of walking football and physical activity more broadly.
The toolkit is divided into three key documents:
• A main document covers essential topics such as the benefits of walking football, characteristics of older participants, roles of the different people involved and medical recommendations to ensure participant safety.
New walking football toolkit available
• A second document provides forms, suggested training sessions and checklists for recreational play. This guidance on recreational walking football highlights flexibility as a fundamental principle in non-competitive settings, enabling organisations to adapt activities to meet their local context and participants’ needs and preferences.
• A third document outlines competitive play, with the Laws of the Game for those interested in a structured, competitive approach.
